Play is essential to develop the skills of our children and young people. It helps develop the imagination. They learn how to get along with others; and develop conflict resolution skills. Play can allow the child an avenue to express themselves. They make sense of the world; and begin to develop an understanding of where they fit in; or want to fit in, to the world around them.
Imaginative play allows the child to ask questions of themselves; their peers; and their world. Importantly, it also allows them to question the answers they are given.
Play is an essential tool for learning; and can als be a great outlet for many children. It is their downtime; time to recharge. Different types of play will suit children differently.
